Using data to save lives

The problem with big data is knowing what’s critical in the ever-growing flood of information. Our client asked us to help deliver that clarity so it could focus its significant investment in cybersecurity and move to a more proactive, mission-led footing.

Applying a clear focus on mission planning along with our deep understanding of data science and data engineering, we created a new data framework, operating models, processes and architectures. This new structure enabled us to identify the critical information that made operators’ lives easier and use it to optimise insight and task automation.

Our approach set a new benchmark for data exploitation and has been adopted across the organisation. Although initially focused on cyber security, it is a repeatable model now being used across digital transformation projects to drive process improvement and deliver efficiency, clarity and greater insight.

Responsible Cyber Power: Transforming cyber resilience on the front line

We partnered with our defence client on the largest cyber transformation programme outside the US, deploying a multi-billion dollar budget and delivering for 1.8m users. With a mandate from national government, our remit involved a wholesale rest of defensive cyber security.

Our role spanned technical and strategic leadership, with our team helping to steer investment decisions and shaping both business organisational and technology layers. As well as defining the CISO function and aligning strategic/investment decision-making with risk parameters, we drove change beyond the security function to the wider ICT and operational systems. 

The project was a catalyst for digital transformation and has changed the way cyber security is perceived across the organisation. Security is now embedded rather than being seen as an obstacle, and risk has been tangible reduced.

Strategic pivot to meet global demand for electrical vehicles

The vehicle technologies industry is facing seismic change in the form of migrating global demand and challenges everywhere from labour market regulations to environmental performance. Our client asked us to help focus its strategy so it was making the most of an increasing appetite for electronic/software products in East Asia and heavy goods products in India Africa and Russia.

Our market deep dive included value stream analysis and capability assessments that revealed key gaps and inspired a long-term corporate strategy which redefined the organisation’s priorities, structures and business models. As well as using process re-engineering to streamline operations in high-cost, declining markets, we instigated follow-the-sun software development and established global operations – with full implementation planning and support throughout the overhaul for the in-house team.

With the reset in strategy approved by the board, a new and highly profitable business was spun-out and floated on the stock exchange.
